Peer Mentor Paraprofessional

Job Description

The Peer Mentor Paraprofessional is primarily responsible for mentoring students in Hope’s summer program. The Peer Mentor will also provide mentoring to Individuals in other core and non-care programs at Hope, as determined by the Community Resources Coordinator. This will include providing job coaching, functional academics and daily living skills training to participants. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel to various locations.

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this position consist of the ability to write, read and comprehend what is read, and perform math skills.  Computer skills, advanced expressive and receptive language skills are required in the execution of the position.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to be physically present at each service location.   • Identify needs and weaknesses of service delivery.  Participate in the development of policies and procedures to improve operation of service delivery. 
  • Promote a trusting relationship and remain professional when working with individuals/families.
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships between the Administrative Entity, Supports Coordination Organization, day programs, and other support services.
  • Avoid allowing personal beliefs and values to influence dealings with individuals receiving services.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, students, staff and community members.
  • Collaborating with outside vendors.
  • Coordinating with all volunteers, educators, transportation providers, etc.
  • Ability to work with clients and quests with diverse abilities and their needs.
  • Carry out curriculum based program activities to support youth with ASD, improve health and wellness, and increase exposure to the local community.
  • Ability and willingness to carry out responsibilities in a positive and timely manner.
  • Ability to provide direct supervision and responsibility for the welfare of groups with disabilities.
  • Establish clear lines of communication with the families of Individuals, as needed.
  • Ability to maintain proper and secure procedures in the use and handling of TeenLink and the Autism Hub.
  • Ability to operate company leased fleet vehicles.
  • Ability to provide outcomes and data for grant reporting.

Hours: Part-Time, seasonal, nonexempt position, hours to be determined (15-30 hours per week)

Qualifications:

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related subject preferred with a minimum of 2-3 years; or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

Experience & Skills Required

Experience in human services, coaching or education required. Knowledge of mental health related issues, behavior management and transition skills including job coaching, functional academics, and daily living skills preferred. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to work independently and in community settings. Must have reliable transportation, valid PA driver’s license, and be willing to travel.
As a mandated reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse clearances and training standards.
